Scouting

Scouting is a global movement that helps young people develop skills for life. Through adventure, challenge, and teamwork, young people build confidence, resilience, and independence while having fun and making lasting friendships. At its heart, Scouting is about learning by doing – encouraging young people to step outside their comfort zones, discover their potential, and play an active role in their communities.

At 27th Strood (All Saints Frindsbury), we are proud to offer a varied and engaging programme led by dedicated volunteers, giving young people opportunities to explore the outdoors, learn practical skills, and grow into confident individuals.

Our Sections

Scouting is divided into age-based sections, each designed to offer the right balance of challenge, fun, and development for every stage.

Squirrels (Ages 4–6) Coming Soon

Our youngest members begin their journey in Squirrels, where they take part in fun, structured activities that encourage curiosity, sharing, and teamwork. Sessions focus on building confidence, communication, and early independence through games, crafts, and outdoor play.

Beavers (Ages 6–8)

Beavers enjoy a wide range of activities designed to develop friendships and teamwork. From creative projects and simple outdoor adventures to learning basic skills, Beavers begin to explore the world around them while gaining confidence and a sense of achievement.

Cubs (Ages 8–10½)

Cubs take on more adventurous challenges, including camping, hiking, and learning practical outdoor skills. They begin to develop independence and responsibility, working together as a team while earning badges and awards along the way.

Scouts (Ages 10½–14)

Scouts experience a more challenging and adventurous programme. Activities may include camping, fire lighting, navigation, survival skills, and community projects. Young people are encouraged to take leadership roles, build resilience, and push their boundaries in a supportive environment.

Explorer Scouts (Ages 14–18)

Explorer Scouts take greater ownership of their programme, with opportunities for advanced outdoor adventure, expeditions, and leadership development. Many work towards prestigious awards while developing skills that prepare them for adulthood, employment, and further opportunities.

What Young People Experience

Across all sections, young people benefit from a wide range of experiences, including:

  • Outdoor adventure such as camping, hiking, and bushcraft
  • Practical skills like cooking, first aid, and navigation
  • Teamwork and leadership development
  • Creative activities and problem-solving challenges
  • Community involvement and social action projects

Every activity is designed to be inclusive, engaging, and rewarding, helping young people grow in confidence and capability.

Skills for Life

Scouting helps young people develop essential life skills that stay with them long after they leave. From communication and teamwork to resilience and independence, these experiences support personal development, wellbeing, and future success.

Above all, Scouting is about having fun, making friends, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
